Get to know some of the drivers and see who's who on the racing circuit.          

Some drivers are racing in more than one formula in this Championship and some drive more than one craft.
Each driver has a unique number within each formula. So if you want to cheer on a particular driver, note the number beside his/her name and you'll know which craft to look out for during each Formula race.

I started racing in 2000 with my son Joe. He had a Boy Scout project that we completed together. We were both hooked with the 4ft disk and bought a set of plans from UH.

This sport is still in its infancy and advancements in the design and engineering are still being created by individuals. I like that I am able to put ideas into a machine that have never been done before.

My ambition is to compete and win at the international level.

I started racing 3 years ago. My Dad started about 18 months before me and I really loved watching it so decided that I'd get involved too. It gives you a huge adrenalin rush!

I love that everyone is so friendly and willing to help when you have a problem.

I want to design a revolutionary part/item to get more from a racing craft and to finish 3rd in a competitive F1 field and then 1st!

I started racing in 1989 in a rescue craft, as a novice.

The people who race hovercraft are great and a lot of fun. I love the speed and the thrills you get when racing, particularly in Formula 1. My son Will races too and I'm looking forward to watching him in WHC2010.

My ambition is to win the Formula S World Champion title in 2010.

I started racing in 1996 when I was 9 years old. My grandpa started in 1980 in the US and my dad still races F25. He's also an ex F1 Champion. So, it's in my blood!!

My ambition is to be in the Top 5 craft at Towcester.

Jon Spedding and his dad introduced me to hovercrafting in 1985 when we went to watch the racing at Mere Brow. I love the extreme enjoyment, social circles that extend beyond the racing weekends and the generosity of fellow hovercraft enthusiasts.

I started racing over 20 years ago, along with my wife Sue, having seen an advert in Exchange and Mart! So far I've competed in over 300 races in Formula 3, 2 and 1. I'm currently the Formula 2 World Champion and the GB 2009 Formula 2 Champion in team with Sue.

When I'm not racing hovercraft then I'm working on motorbikes. For me, Hovercraft racing is the most exhilarating thing I've done.

My main ambition is to hold onto my World Champion title.

I started as a novice this year in Trencin and joined all races in Port St. Pere and Prudhomat.

After every race I got a better feeling about driving a craft and enjoyed it even more. Hovercraft racing is loud, fast and dirty! Exactly what I like in my life!

My ambition is to finish the race and maybe not to be in the last position.

In 1998 I bought a used hovercraft just to have fun in the Swedish archipelago, but as soon as I got it Magnus Ivanoff booked tickets for me and a friend to come to a race in England, and from then on I was hooked.

In 2004 we travelled to Berlin to take part in the World championships and the whole team thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Late 2004 I decided to purchase my own craft. This will be my 3rd WHC and I'm looking forward to it.

Grew up, met girls & drink & football, then grew up a bit more and in 2007 bought my first craft from eBay. Never looked back!

In what other sport would somebody in your own formula give you help to get onto the grid so that you can race them as a competitor?

My ambition is to find the time to build my own competitive craft.

I started racing through my now wife Denise. When we first met in 1998 she mentioned in passing about a race meeting in Southampton. I was hooked there and then but she wouldn't let me get a craft until I spent a year marshalling. I did!! The rest is history. I've met some really great people through the club whom I now count among my best friends.

I love the adrenaline, the camaraderie, the after race scene and the indescribable rush I get from doing 60 mile an hour, 6 inches off the ground on a cushion of air with no brakes!!

My ambition is to be the World Champion before I get too old!!

I've been involved in racing for years. My father was in the club before I was born. I attended races with my family on and off in my early years and my brother started racing. As soon as I was 16 I started too.

I've had some wins in Novices and since then any race completed without injury or ploughing and going swimming is a success!!

Great Britain81 - Keith Smallwood

Keith built his first hovercraft while at university in 1973 and has been racing ever since. He has competed in most formulas over the years, achieving numerous top-three places in the National and European championships, and also cruises, taking part in the Rhone Raid every year.

His other major hovercrafting achievement is introducing many new people to the club through the teams he ran as a teacher at Bradfield School.

Hovercraft are also Keith's day job - he is the owner of hovercraft building company Vortex Services. His ambition is to keep hovercrafting for as long as possible!

I first started racing 12 years ago and was taught by Jeremy Kemp and from that time on hovercrafting has been my life's hobby. In Poland in 1999 I started hovercrafting  and I probably had the first leisure craft in the entire country. In 2002 I established a company, hovercraft.pl which offers hovercraft for corporate events and advertising campaigns to give people an idea of how much fun it all is.

It was really hard work developing a new club but now I run the Hovercraft Club of Poland with my friends - hoverclub.pl which is growing constantly. I love hovercrafting because it is such a unique and exciting sport.

My main ambition is to develop this sport in Poland and help other people to enjoy it too.
